The release of the fan favorite Sonic CD was big enough to dethrone inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood from the top spot this month. Hats off to our favorite blue hedgehog! In PS one Classics, the battle for the top spot saw a changing of the guard with new release Final Fantasy VI, while Crash Bandicoot snuck in to the top 5 to shake things up a bit. Lastly, horror adventure Corpse Party continues to dominate the PSP charts, while sports content for FIFA Soccer ‘12 and NHL ‘12 formed the majority of the top 5 Add-Ons.

Few details have been revealed about the forthcoming videogame, but today BBC Worldwide has confirmed that players will be up against the most feared monsters from the Doctor Who universe – the Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and The Silence. In Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock, players will be able to take control of both the Doctor and River Song to unravel the mystery of The Eternity Clock. The clock is ticking…

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be available via the PlayStation Network for both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita this March, with a PC conversion following. 

I really get a kick out of the fact that I am now considered an “indie” again after all these years. I have been making games for nearly 30 years, having built a top-five PC publishing house called Interplay around such major franchises as The Bard’s Tale, Wasteland, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout, Descent and more. In the early days, I developed games for other companies and moved up the food chain to become a publisher so that I could make games “my way.” And here I sit, again readying our first major release in Choplifter HD as a digital publisher and having created the game the way I wanted. Our company tagline at Interplay was “By Gamers. For Gamers” and it is those same values we used in creating Choplifter HD.

Choplifter was a very important game when it was originally released back in 1982 and achieved #1 status at the time. Dan Gorlin, the original creator, really understood the humanness of saving little people from tough situations. It was a great action game for sure, but there was something about saving those little guys. And certainly it just never gets dull blowing things up in a big way! I felt that Choplifter would be a perfect game style to bring back, but fully realized with all the modern gameplay expectations.

I’m not too fond of the word “retro game” since it sometimes conveys an over-reliance on nostalgia. I can assure you we went all out to make this a state-of-the-art game that goes way beyond the goals of the original game. We took some of the industry’s top artists and used the Unreal engine to power an intense over-the-top action experience. The entire team put its heart and soul into the game and it was great to see such passion. In fact, some people might even say we spent too much money when compared to other digital titles, but we believe that quality comes first.

We pit you against over 30 levels of mayhem that introduce a number of variables all the way to the end. You will be commanding three different helicopter types, each with its own set of upgrades. You will need to deal with your guns and keep an eye on their overheating, utilize your missiles intelligently, boosting when necessary, and of course, keep track of your fuel. You will come up against AA guns, RPGs, jets, tanks, snipers, jeeps, hordes of zombies and more. We guarantee to keep you on your toes and even laughing here and there until the very end. You will definitely feel accomplished when you finish this baby!

I was given this game to review only because Symonator or InfiniteStates were too busy to do a review, and no one else was even close to volunteering. It is christmas after all. I'm also not a fan of RPGs at all. My poison is battlefield bad company, battlefield 3 M.A.G. Or if I'm pushed, some modern warfare. I did give dark souls a go last week and kind of liked it, but it didn't quite grab me. But as I've been told a few times,

I need to get out of my comfort zone.

So thanks Dave for forcing me to review a game I didn't want too.

My first impression is that this is gonna hurt, it's basically a tower defence game with a large chunk of RPG elements, and it's the RPG bit that confuses the hell out of me. Thankfully though the makers haven't created an RPG game, it's still got some of that at its core, but it's not a full blown role playing game. So I created my character, chose my few perks and headed off into the guts of the game…

The arena. The first level is hard, even on easy it's still going to grief you some (or is it my lack of RPG experience showing?), you really have to play it a few times and level up your character and main weapon, which is easy enough as the MANA you collect is pretty plentyfull. So once you up you rank and skills a little you'll plough through the first arena quickly enough. But when you get to the second area you'll soon know about pwnage, and you'll need to go back to level one and grind your way up some levels. It took me about 4 hours to do it, and a few online games to get enough skill to get through the second stage. But liked said earlier, when it comes to RPGs I'm both a noob and a hater. So give me a break ok.

Strangely enough once I completed Arena 1and 2 arena 3 was a breeze. Arena's 4 and 5 were tough, but not as hard as the first two.

So it's safe to say that I've enjoyed playing this immensely, and I've yet to complete the game, I've enjoyed it so much that I've now bought the iPad and pc versions.

But wait there's more, didn't I mention the online part a bit back? Hell yeah, now that's what I'm talking about, but online isn't the only way to get your multiplayer fix, the game even features 4 player splitscreen. So what difference does it make if it has a multiplayer section? A freeking huge difference, for one, if you're a lower rank and grinding to get to the higher skill levels, you can really rank up quickly. Or if you're a higher rank, you can help others to get there more quickly, beat times, or just rank up your main weapon. But more than anything it it's just brilliant fun watching noobs run around wondering what the hell to do… Noobs like me. Still, it was great fun, and I know that once I've finished the game on this character I'll be trying the other characters to see what defences they build.

Now that reminds me of what this game really is about, it's a tower defence game. Building towers in this game is like many other similar games, its not what you build (well sometimes it is) its mostly WHERE you build. You'll learn pretty quickly where the main horde attacks from, what defences work best, and where they work best. But remember to keep an eye out in different sections to make sure they don't break through. So I hope I've got my point across that I really really love this game, yes the game I didn't want to review, not being an RPG fan I thought I couldn't do it justice. But yes I really really love this game. I've ploughed about 20 hours into it in 3 days, that's more than I would have played if it was a Battlefield game.

Not only that but I want more, I want to complete it on one character then start another to see what that's like. But I also want to play with friends, and so far I've talked Dave, InfiniteStates and possibly Symonator into buy it. Overall if you like RPG games then this is something you'll probably enjoy, if you like tower defence games, then again you'll probably enjoy the added RPG elements. That said the game does have a of niggling little problem, not game breaking problems, but annoying non the less. You can't upgrade your main weapon if you don't have an alternative to switch too. And that's it, that's the only problem, the game is sheer brilliance, it's been a massive hit on the iPad, its been a great hit on steam for the pc, and now it should be another hit on the playstation 3. Now if an RPG hater can love it, then you should too. Get it, add me and we can play online.

New PSN Games this week include All Zombies Must Die. This twin-stick shooter is taken to lofty new heights with a bevy of RPG features, four player co-op and optional PlayStation Move support. You’ll also want to check out Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD. This remake of the influential original puts you in the shoes of the High Plains Drifter with an all new coat of paint that you won’t want to miss.

The Splinter Cell HD Collection released earlier this year, but it’s now broken up into individual games. Want to pick up only one title in the trilogy? Now you can. The original Trilogy bundle is of course, still available, and may stand as the better deal should you wish to purchase all three.

Evolution Studios has announced MotorStorm RC, a new title within the racer franchise which will be part of the European launch line-up for PlayStation Vita.

The game, which is also set to hit PS3 via the PlayStation Network, sees players race across off-road environments with radio controlled vehicles.

Not quite what you were expecting, hey?

Eight vehicle classes, as well as four “classic” locations with 16 different tracks will feature. Four-player split-screen multiplayer is also set for the PS3 version, and even better, you can play the game on the home console and then progress out and about with Vita.

“Everyone who has played MotorStorm RC so far says it really gets you hooked, with an addictive, hypnotic core experience – just like the best arcade games,” said Evolution game director Paul Rustchynsky in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

An announcement trailer has also been released and can be seen below. As mentioned, the game will be available when Vita launches in Europe on February 22, 2012.

Trine 2 is available now on Mac and PC – with cross platform play between the two – and hits console networks this week. The Xbox Live version goes global on December 21, while the US gets it on the PSN on December 20, and European and associated PAL territories are promised a release before the end of the year.
